AVHS is moving forward and keeping history alive

The Applegate Valley Historical Society (AVHS) is moving forward. Yes, we lost the property where our museum building sat, so we are now searching for a place to call home. We have several irons in the fire and are trying to sort out which will work best.
With that being said, no matter where we choose, there will be costs. With your help, we can do this.
We will hold a yard sale on September 5 and 6, 2026, from 10 am-4 pm at Horsefeather Farms, 13291 Hwy 238. Donations are welcome, starting August 15. Contact Maryanna at 541 941-0000 or Barbara at 541-659-3984.
Our working group gathers once a month on the first Monday at 10 am at the Applegate Library. You are welcome to join us in resolving our issues. We hold quarterly meetings on the second Saturday of February, May, August, and November at the Applegate Library at 10 am. We strive to be involved in historical events throughout the Applegate Valley (and beyond!) to share the interesting history of our region.
Last July, AVHS and Jackson County Library Services co-hosted a screening of a documentary, “House of Threads,” presented by Williams resident Heather Paladini. This screening, inspired by Southern Oregon Historical Society’s (SOHS) lunchtime series, Windows in Time, showed a documentary about a Portuguese family in the Applegate and the murder of one of its members, Antone Joseph. The film can be viewed at the “JCLS Beyond” YouTube channel by searching for “Azoreans in the Applegate: The Murder of Antone Joseph (Windows in Time).”
AVHS was also invited to participate in the SOHS Car Show at Hanley Farm on August 1.
We at AVHS feel the importance of sharing Applegate history beyond the Applegate Valley and enjoy connections and discussions about family history at every event.
